Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday announced that the Centre has sanctioned 62 new postgraduate (PG) seats across six government medical colleges and hospitals in the state for the 2025–26 academic year.

Calling the move a “significant milestone” in bolstering medical education and healthcare infrastructure in western Odisha, Majhi expressed gratitude to Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda for the approval.

In a letter to Nadda, Majhi wrote, “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to you and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the gracious approval of 62 PG seats in six government medical colleges and hospitals in Odisha for the academic year 2025–26.” He added that the expansion will not only enhance the quality of medical teaching and learning but also strengthen specialised healthcare delivery in the region.

Majhi further affirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring full compliance with National Medical Commission (NMC) norms and to supporting the growth of these institutions into leading centres of medical excellence.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, in a post on X, shared details of the allocation: 15 seats have been approved for VIMSAR-Burla, 3 for SCB Medical College in Cuttack, 6 for PGIMER & Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, 20 for PRM Medical College and Hospital at Baripada, 8 for FM Medical College and Hospital in Balasore, and 10 for Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Bolangir.
