Andhra Pradesh Minister for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Kinjarapu Atchannaidu on Monday said the state has intensified surveillance and containment measures following the detection of avian influenza in parts of Annamayya district.
The response includes the deployment of rapid response teams, enforcement of movement restrictions on poultry, and implementation of biosecurity protocols in affected and surrounding areas.
The outbreak was confirmed after reports of sudden poultry deaths, with samples tested at the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases, Bhopal. Culling operations were undertaken in identified hotspots in line with standard operating procedures, alongside disinfection drives and controlled disposal of carcasses.
Surveillance has been expanded to neighbouring districts, including Chittoor, where precautionary sampling and monitoring are underway.
The government has directed coordination among the Animal Husbandry, Health, Revenue, Police and Panchayat Raj departments to ensure effective containment.
Poultry farmers have been advised to report unusual bird mortality immediately, while awareness efforts are being intensified to reinforce farm-level biosecurity and prevent further spread.
