The government has unveiled a major push to modernise medical education by introducing e-books and artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled learning resources across medical colleges. In the first phase, 57 government medical colleges—largely located in rural and remote regions—will be covered to improve students’ access to essential academic material.
As per the media reports, speaking at the AI Impact Summit, Deputy Director General B Srinivas noted that students in remote institutions often face difficulties accessing quality e-books and technical content. To bridge this gap, the government plans to leverage AI-driven platforms to expand digital resource availability. Due to budgetary considerations, the rollout will initially focus on government-run colleges.
During the summit, panelists also deliberated on the role of responsible AI in advancing health equity. Discussions centred on building trust, ensuring transparency, and strengthening governance frameworks. The panel further examined how evidence-based AI systems can be deployed to support health systems, particularly in resource-constrained settings.
