The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has signed three Memoranda of Understanding with the Goa State Pharmacy Council (GSPC), the Quality Council of India (QCI), and HLL Infra Tech Services Limited (HITES) to strengthen pharmacovigilance, medicine quality standards, and capacity-building mechanisms across the healthcare system.

The MoU with the Goa State Pharmacy Council establishes a structured framework to enhance pharmacovigilance activities, promote the rational use of medicines, and strengthen professional development and training of pharmacists in Goa. The collaboration focuses on expanding awareness and use of the National Formulary of India among registered pharmacists, improving adverse drug reaction reporting under the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India, and supporting the establishment and strengthening of ADR Monitoring Centres across healthcare facilities in the state. The partnership also includes training programmes, workshops, continuing education initiatives, and awareness activities on drug safety, pharmacopoeial standards, and sustainable pharmacopoeia practices, with the aim of improving systematic reporting and documentation.

Under the MoU signed with the Quality Council of India, IPC will collaborate on healthcare quality promotion, public health awareness, and capacity building through joint initiatives. The partnership covers planning and implementation of training and awareness programmes, particularly in pharmacovigilance and allied areas, along with the sharing of technical expertise and institutional resources. The agreement provides a flexible framework for project-based collaboration aligned with national objectives on healthcare quality, safety, and standardisation.

IPC’s engagement with HLL Infra Tech Services Limited is part of its broader strategy to expand institutional partnerships with public sector enterprises, regulatory bodies, professional councils, and quality organisations to reinforce medicine safety systems and improve professional competencies nationwide.

Addressing the significance of the MoUs, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare highlighted the critical role of regulatory institutions in strengthening primary and secondary healthcare delivery. The Ministry underlined that such collaborations must translate into tangible outcomes, particularly in the areas of pharmacist training, capacity building, and effective implementation of pharmacovigilance systems.

The agreements add to IPC’s ongoing efforts to build a robust national framework for medicine safety and quality assurance, reflecting its continued focus on strengthening regulatory collaboration, enhancing awareness among pharmacists, and ensuring uniform standards for drug quality and patient safety across the country.
