In a move to accelerate life sciences research, the Atal Incubation Centre at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (AIC-CCMB) has partnered with U.S.-based lab equipment giant Thermo Fisher Scientific to launch a new supply centre on its campus. Alongside this initiative, the partners have also commenced a hands-on workshop focused on ‘Cell Health Analysis’ aimed at students and researchers.
The newly inaugurated supply centre, located at CCMB Annexe 2, was officially opened by CCMB Director Dr. Vinay Kumar Nandicoori on Wednesday. The facility will provide researchers, scientists, and start-ups with immediate, on-site access to vital laboratory materials such as reagents, chemicals, and consumables—resources that are often critical for uninterrupted research progress.
“Researchers frequently lose valuable time waiting for specialised lab materials to be delivered,” said Jayabharath Reddy, Director at Thermo Fisher Scientific. “This supply centre directly addresses these logistical hurdles, ensuring that essential materials are readily available when needed.” Dr. Nandicoori added, “With this new facility, we can significantly accelerate the pace of scientific research not only at CCMB but also at other nearby research institutions.”
Coinciding with the launch of the supply centre, AIC-CCMB and Thermo Fisher have organised a three-day Cell Health Analysis Workshop from June 18 to 20. The workshop offers researchers practical training in advanced cell-based assay techniques that are pivotal in biomedical research and drug discovery. Participants will gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge equipment such as the Attune NxT Flow Cytometer and Evos M7000 Imaging System.
The training covers a comprehensive range of cell analysis techniques, including cell viability, proliferation, apoptosis, immune phenotyping, and oxidative stress assessment. These skills are crucial for developing innovative treatments for diseases such as cancer and for advancing immunological research.
“Cell analysis plays a vital role in the discovery of new therapies for cancer and other serious illnesses,” said Dr. Madhusudhana Rao, CEO of AIC-CCMB. “This workshop equips researchers with direct exposure to state-of-the-art technologies, enhancing their practical skills and accelerating their research capabilities.”
The partnership between AIC-CCMB and Thermo Fisher reflects a shared commitment to foster innovation in the life sciences ecosystem by addressing both the logistical and technical needs of India’s growing research community.
