The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) has announced plans to develop a Japanese medical device manufacturing cluster near the Noida International Airport, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
An official memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Yeida and Medical Excellence Japan (MEJ) will be signed during an upcoming visit by a Japanese delegation, marking a major step toward positioning the region as a hub for advanced medical technology.
“This development happened after a high-level visit last week from Medical Excellence Japan (MEJ) officials hinted at a major step toward developing this region as a hub for advanced medical technology,” said Shailendra Bhatia, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at Yeida, who participated in the meeting held last Thursday.
During their visit to the Yeida office, MEJ officials met Yeida Chief Executive Officer RK Singh, OSD Shailendra Bhatia, and other senior officials to finalize details of the MoU focused on collaboration in the medical devices sector.
According to Yeida officials, the proposed MoU will significantly strengthen the upcoming Medical Devices Park in Sector 29, located near the airport. Once the MoU is signed in the coming months, Yeida and MEJ will work jointly to facilitate investment opportunities and attract leading Japanese medical device companies to establish manufacturing and R&D units within the park. At least seven firms are expected to begin operations under this initiative.
The collaboration will also support technology transfer from Japanese companies to Indian firms, creating new export opportunities for products manufactured at the park and helping Indian companies access the specialized Japanese healthcare market, officials added.
“This partnership with MEJ is a game-changer for the Medical Devices Park and the ‘Make in India’ initiative. It will accelerate the creation of a sophisticated healthcare ecosystem, driving innovation, and positioning us as a key global manufacturing location,” said RK Singh, CEO, Yeida.
The upcoming visit by senior MEJ leadership, scheduled for next month, will include the official signing of the MoU. Following the agreement, a delegation of leading Japanese medical device manufacturers is expected to tour the Medical Devices Park, meet with local Indian companies, and explore joint venture and collaborative manufacturing opportunities, officials confirmed.
