Siemens Healthineers has announced a strategic partnership with Stryker to develop a pioneering robotic system designed for a wide range of neurovascular procedures, including both elective and emergency treatments for conditions such as strokes and aneurysms.

The collaboration leverages Siemens Healthineers’ strengths in robotics and image-guided therapy, alongside Stryker’s expertise in neurovascular technologies. According to a joint release, the partnership will encompass robotic system design, integration of access devices and implants, advanced imaging for robotic navigation, and optimization of procedural workflows.

This joint effort aims to create a unified ecosystem combining robotics, imaging, and therapeutic devices, with the goal of improving physician performance, enhancing procedural accuracy, and enabling faster treatment delivery. Initially, the companies plan to focus on co-developing this integrated ecosystem and validating its clinical value.

This initiative marks a new step into surgical robotics for Siemens Healthineers, which first entered the field through its $1.1 billion acquisition of Corindus in 2019. In 2023, Siemens discontinued the use of Corindus surgical robotics in cardiology but signaled continued interest in neurological applications.

This collaboration also follows another recent announcement from Siemens Healthineers — a partnership with Cook Medical to merge real-time MRI imaging with interventional procedure expertise.

“Neurovascular diseases – primarily strokes and aneurysms – carry a massive global burden. Stroke is the second-leading cause of death and the third-leading cause of disability in adults globally. We are excited to announce this partnership, especially with Stryker, a leading player in the field of neurovascular care. Together, we are uniquely positioned to create an ecosystem of image-guidance, robotics and devices. This meaningful innovation will enable physicians to deliver more precise and timely care to patients around the world.”— Carsten Bertram, Head of Advanced Therapies, Siemens Healthineers

“Stryker and Siemens Healthineers have the joint goal to advance neurovascular care through innovation. By combining our deep expertise in stroke therapy devices with the leadership of Siemens Healthineers in robotics and imaging, we aim to simplify workflows, enhance precision, and accelerate care. Together, we are taking an important step toward transforming how neurovascular procedures are performed – and ultimately, working to improve outcomes for patients worldwide.”
Jim Marucci, President, Neurovascular Division, Stryker
