SCHOTT, a global leader in specialty glass, has expanded its Jambusar, Gujarat facility to include syringe and cartridge glass tubing production—making it Asia’s largest producer in this category. This milestone strengthens India’s pharmaceutical packaging capabilities and aligns with the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The advanced technology, transferred from SCHOTT’s German operations, targets rising demand for biologics such as semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist for weight management and type 2 diabetes. The GLP-1 market alone is projected to grow at a 33% CAGR. With this addition, SCHOTT India now offers a complete portfolio—from glass tubing for vials and ampoules to prefillable syringes and cartridges.

“This expansion is a game-changer for India’s pharma packaging ecosystem,” said Sundeep Prabhu, Sr. Vice President Sales & Marketing, SCHOTT Glass India. “We are proud to be the first in India to locally produce high-precision syringe and cartridge glass tubing, boosting healthcare self-reliance and economic growth.”

SCHOTT’s FIOLAX® Type I borosilicate glass tubing offers tight geometric precision and consistent wall thickness, ensuring optimal drug delivery performance. Combined with the perfeXion® quality system that monitors 100,000 data points per minute, SCHOTT aims for zero-defect manufacturing.

President & MD Pawan Kumar Shukla highlighted that local production ensures a stable supply chain for critical drug delivery systems while transferring advanced manufacturing expertise to India. The country’s robust pharma industry, skilled workforce, and favourable regulatory framework make it a strategic hub to meet Asia’s growing healthcare demands.
