Royal Philips, a global health technology leader, has announced the CE-marking of its latest SmartCT 3.0 image reconstruction solution, now available across Europe. Designed to enhance decision-making in the treatment of stroke and other neurovascular conditions, SmartCT 3.0 will be showcased at LINNC Paris 2025 (June 2–4) at Booth #28.

Already adopted in Japan and Canada, SmartCT 3.0 is optimized for use with the Philips Azurion neuro biplane system. It streamlines 3D imaging directly in the angiography suite, enabling neuro interventionists to visualize brain tissue, blood vessels, and devices in real time — eliminating the need to transfer patients for additional CT scans. This integration helps clinicians treat patients faster and with greater precision.

“In stroke care, minutes matter — and confidence is everything,” said Dr. Atul Gupta, Chief Medical Officer, Diagnosis & Treatment at Philips. “With SmartCT 3.0, we’re empowering clinicians with intelligent 3D imaging at the point of care, reducing delays and improving outcomes.”

SmartCT 3.0 is already in use at leading stroke centers worldwide. It supports minimally invasive procedures such as mechanical thrombectomy, which removes blood clots in ischemic stroke cases. The system simplifies workflows, reduces procedural complexity, and enhances personalized therapy decisions.

According to Dr. Shuta Aketa, Director of the Stroke Center at Osaka International Medical & Science Center, “The image quality of SmartCT’s helical cone-beam CT is nearly equivalent to a conventional CT scan—ideal for emergencies.” Dr. Junji Fukumori, Chief of Neurovascular Intervention at the same center, added, “Philips SmartCT provides unmatched clarity and confidence for complex cases.”

Key features of SmartCT 3.0 include:

  • SmartCT Soft Tissue Helical: Provides high-quality cone-beam CT (CBCT) images in as little as 8 seconds, even for restless patients.

  • SmartCT Dual Phase Cerebral: Offers dynamic visualization of vessel occlusions and collateral blood flow using intuitive bolus timing and guidance tools.

  • SmartCT Dual Viewer: Enables real-time, side-by-side manipulation of 3D images at table side, supporting image fusion and procedure planning while maintaining sterility.
