Dexcom today announced the launch of an innovative AI-driven photo meal logging feature for its Stelo platform, enhancing its suite of tools for better glucose management. The new Smart Food Logging feature is now available on both Stelo, the first FDA-cleared over-the-counter glucose biosensor, and Dexcom’s G7 prescription continuous glucose monitor (CGM).
The feature leverages advanced artificial intelligence to simplify meal tracking—users can take a photo of their meal within the app, and the AI automatically identifies the ingredients and generates a meal description. This aims to make consistent food logging more intuitive and accessible.
Dexcom emphasized that the G7 is currently the only prescription CGM in the U.S. to offer this AI-powered food logging capability. Speaking at the American Diabetes Association’s 85th Scientific Sessions in Chicago, Jake Leach, Dexcom’s President and Chief Operating Officer, highlighted the value of this feature in empowering users to better understand the impact of their dietary choices.
With this update, Stelo now combines Smart Food Logging with its GenAI-powered weekly insights, Oura integration, and a newly introduced Glucose Impact view—an interface designed to help users analyze how daily habits influence their glucose levels.
The new feature is available immediately to Stelo and G7 users via the latest update of the Dexcom app on both iOS and Android platforms.
“Diet is a fundamental part of glucose management,” said Leach in a company statement. “With Smart Food Logging, we’re removing common barriers to meal tracking. This has been one of the most requested features from our users, and we believe it will make managing glucose levels simpler and more effective.”
