The Andhra Pradesh government has announced plans to develop a 500-acre Medical Devices Manufacturing Zone 2.0 in Visakhapatnam (Vizag) to expand the state’s capacity for producing medical technology and attract investment from global and domestic medical device manufacturers.
The initiative builds on the success of the existing Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in Nadupuru, which has positioned Vizag as a growing hub for medical device innovation and production.
The proposed zone will host production facilities for electronic and high-value medical equipment, including advanced diagnostics, imaging technologies, consumables and other devices used across clinical and hospital settings. It is expected to support research and development, boost exports and create employment opportunities across the medical technology value chain, spanning manufacturing roles, testing, validation and ancillary services.
Government planning remains underway for land use allocation, approvals and policy incentives designed to attract multinational firms as well as Indian startups to invest in the zone. Officials are working to finalise these details to ensure the new zone can offer dedicated infrastructure and a strong manufacturing ecosystem that enhances India’s self-reliance in high-end healthcare technologies.
The expanded Medical Devices Manufacturing Zone 2.0 is positioned to complement the existing AMTZ facilities, reinforcing Andhra Pradesh’s role in strengthening India’s healthcare manufacturing ecosystem and reducing dependence on imported medical devices.
Once operational, it is expected to help improve access to advanced healthcare technologies nationwide and further solidify Vizag’s status in the medtech landscape.
