ShardaCare-Healthcity has launched a dedicated Institute of Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) to treat complex blood disorders in both paediatric and adult patients, the hospital said on Tuesday.

The institute is equipped to manage a wide range of conditions, including leukaemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, aplastic anaemia, bone marrow failure syndromes, thalassemia and sickle cell disease. It will also handle high-risk and complex transplant cases.

To strengthen its clinical leadership, ShardaCare-Healthcity has appointed Dr Pawan Kumar Singh, a haemato-oncologist and bone marrow transplant specialist, as Vice Chairman, Department of Haemato-Oncology and BMT. He will oversee the clinical and operational development of the institute, supported by Dr Isha, Associate Consultant.

According to the hospital, the BMT institute will offer a full spectrum of transplant options, including matched sibling, matched unrelated donor and haploidentical (half-matched) transplants. Autologous transplants for autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis will also be available.

The facility will provide advanced therapies such as high-dose induction therapy, targeted and immunotherapies, graft manipulation, T-cell-depleted haploidentical transplants and CAR-T cell therapy.

India continues to see a rising burden of inherited and acquired blood disorders among both children and adults, driven by limited awareness, delayed diagnosis and restricted access to specialised care.

The hospital highlighted that the recent advances in bone marrow transplantation and emerging gene therapies are helping improve survival rates and quality of life for patients.
