Ahmedabad-based Shalby Hospitals has unveiled a large-scale expansion plan aimed at establishing new multi-specialty hospitals in major Tier-1 cities across India. The initiative includes new facilities in Lucknow, Kolkata, Nagpur, and Pune, to be developed over the next two to five years.

Currently, the hospital group operates 17 branches with a combined capacity of approximately 2,300 beds. A forthcoming greenfield project at Asha Parekh Hospital in Mumbai is expected to further increase the group’s total capacity to nearly 2,500 beds.

According to Shanay Shah, President of Shalby Hospitals, “Our next phase of growth will focus on Tier-1 cities.” He added that each upcoming hospital will be designed for operational efficiency and scalability, saying, “Each new hospital will have about 200–250 beds, which is our sweet spot. We don’t build 1,000-bed facilities but focus on operational efficiency, patient experience, and scalability.”

Discussing the investment strategy, Shah explained, “In metros, we usually spend about ₹1.5–3 crore per bed, depending on the location and infrastructure. In Mumbai, because it’s an asset-light model, the investment will be closer to ₹1.5 crore per bed.”

Globally recognized for its orthopaedic excellence, Shalby Hospitals performs between 50,000 to 60,000 joint replacements annually. However, the hospital chain is now broadening its scope with a strong focus on comprehensive multispecialty treatment, encompassing cardiology, oncology, neurology, nephrology, critical care, and organ transplants.

The group is also placing a strong emphasis on technological advancement across its network. Commenting on this, Shah said, “We have deployed multiple robotic surgery systems, high-end CT and imaging technologies, and advanced radiation bunkers across our hospitals.”

With this expansion, Shalby Hospitals aims to strengthen its presence in India’s leading metropolitan cities while reinforcing its commitment to delivering advanced, patient-centric healthcare.
