Prataprao Jadhav Opens Renovated Unani Research Centre At JJ Hospital In Mumbai
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of AYUSH and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, inaugurated the renovated Co-location Centre of the Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine (RRIUM) at the Sir J.J. Hospital campus in Mumbai on Saturday, marking the start of Unani Day 2026 events in the city. 
The upgrade, carried out at a cost of approximately ₹3.84 crore, aims to strengthen clinical services, expand research capacity and enhance patient care by integrating Unani and modern medical practices at one site. Originally established in 1984, the RRIUM centre’s renovation is intended to support evidence-based research and collaborative healthcare delivery. 
The inauguration coincided with a two-day National Conference organised by the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) under the AYUSH Ministry on the theme “Innovation and Evidence in Unani Practice.” The programme brings together experts, researchers and practitioners to explore pathways for advancing Unani medicine through scientific investigation and modern research tools. 
Officials highlighted the role of the upgraded facility in promoting integrative healthcare, fostering interdisciplinary referrals and building clinical evidence. New initiatives unveiled during the event included the release of CCRUM publications, the launch of a collaborative web portal and mobile applications, and the signing of international and national memoranda of understanding.
A standardised assessment tool for human temperament in Unani practice was also introduced and the centre’s biochemistry and pathology laboratory received national accreditation to support higher quality research outputs. 
Representatives from the AYUSH Ministry and CCRUM attended the event alongside health officials and stakeholders in traditional medicine research.
