Medanta – The Medicity, Gurugram, has introduced India’s first Varian Edge high-precision radiotherapy system equipped with RapidArc Dynamic, IDENTIFY surface-guided radiation therapy and HyperArc technology, marking a major advancement in cancer treatment in the country.
The next-generation platform enables highly accurate targeting of complex and moving tumours, including multiple brain lesions, while significantly reducing radiation exposure to surrounding healthy organs.
The Varian Edge system allows select cancer patients to complete treatment in as few as three to five sessions, with radiation delivery taking approximately one minute per session in most cases. The technology supports treatment of a wide range of cancers, including brain metastases, head and neck cancers, breast cancer and lung cancer, as well as certain benign brain conditions.
Real-time surface monitoring through IDENTIFY ensures continuous tracking of patient movement, automatically pausing or correcting radiation delivery to enhance safety and precision.
The advanced platform also reduces the need for thermoplastic immobilisation masks, improving patient comfort without compromising clinical accuracy. With sub-millimetric precision and faster treatment times, the installation strengthens Medanta’s radiation oncology capabilities and sets a new benchmark for high-precision radiotherapy in India, combining speed, safety and improved patient experience in advanced cancer care.
