Medanta, one of India’s leading super-specialty healthcare institutions, has enhanced its ophthalmic care services with the installation of the state-of-the-art UNITY Vitreoretinal Cataract System (VCS) at Medanta Mediclinic, Defence Colony, New Delhi. The hospital announced that it is the first institute in the country to deploy this next-generation surgical system, marking a significant advancement in precision-driven and patient-focused eye care.
The UNITY VCS represents a major technological leap in cataract and vitreoretinal surgery, integrating intelligent fluidics, real-time sensing, and several first-in-market innovations for unmatched precision, safety, and efficiency. Its UNITY 4D Phaco technology enables twice the speed of nucleus removal with 41% less energy usage and 50% faster surgical outcomes. Additionally, the HYPERVIT 30K Vitrectomy Probe, the world’s fastest, allows for highly controlled procedures with minimal retinal traction. The system’s Intelligent Fluidics ensures stable intraocular pressure throughout surgery, while the Thermal Sentry feature prevents tissue damage by monitoring incision temperature — collectively enhancing surgical safety, speed, and visual recovery.
Dr. Sudipto Pakrasi, Chairman, Ophthalmology, Medanta – The Medicity, said, “Eye diseases such as cataract, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal disorders continue to affect millions across India. The country has an estimated 4.95 million blind persons and nearly 70 million people with vision impairment, with 6–7 million cataract surgeries performed annually. Despite having around 25,000 ophthalmologists, just about 15 per million population, the demand for advanced and efficient surgical care continues to grow. The introduction of the UNITY VCS system at Medanta Mediclinic is a crucial step toward bridging this gap.”
Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman and Managing Director, Medanta, added, “Our mission is to deliver world-class healthcare services, and the new cataract system further strengthens our aim towards that objective. At the heart of everything we do is the patient, empowered by our pursuit of excellence in infrastructure, technology, talent, and trust.”
