KIMS Hospital in Bhubaneswar has introduced the Aplio i800 advanced endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) system, becoming the first healthcare institution in India to deploy this advanced Japanese health technology for clinical use. The introduction marks a significant step forward in diagnostic imaging, particularly for the early detection of complex diseases, including gastrointestinal and pancreatic cancers.
The Aplio i800 represents a new generation of endoscopic ultrasound systems that combine endoscopy and high-resolution ultrasound to provide detailed visualisation of internal organs. Designed using Japanese technology, the system offers enhanced image clarity, enabling safer procedures, more precise diagnoses and improved guidance for biopsies. In some cases, the technology allows diagnosis and therapeutic intervention within a single procedure, reducing the need for multiple invasive steps.
Globally, next-generation EUS platforms are increasingly used for early-stage cancer detection, minimally invasive diagnostics and data-driven clinical decision-making. Their introduction in India reflects the growing demand for advanced diagnostic tools that improve clinical outcomes while minimising patient risk.
To mark the launch, the Department of Gastroenterology at KIMS organised a national-level, hands-on workshop focused on the new EUS technology. The programme was attended by leading gastroenterologists and specialists from across India, along with doctors from hospitals throughout Odisha. Participants received expert-led training, live procedural demonstrations and real-time clinical exposure to the system.
By introducing globally used diagnostic technology to a regional healthcare setting, KIMS Hospital aims to bridge the gap between international medical standards and local patient care, while strengthening medical education and specialist training in eastern India.
