The INI Radiology Update 2025, organised by the Radiological Forum for Institutes of National Importance (INIs) in collaboration with AIIMS Guwahati, was inaugurated today. The conclave has brought together radiologists, clinicians, researchers, and scientists from India and abroad.

Participants include experts from all AIIMS, PGIMER Chandigarh, NIMHANS Bengaluru, SCTIMST Thiruvananthapuram, SGPGIMS Lucknow, and several leading government medical colleges.

Held under the theme “Advancing Imaging & Interventional Radiology”, the three-day academic event aims to foster collaboration, innovation, and knowledge-sharing across radiology and allied disciplines.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, as Chief Guest. Other dignitaries included Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Puranik, Executive Director, AIIMS Guwahati; Prof. (Dr.) Shailesh B. Gaikwad, Chief, Cardiac-Neuro Centre, AIIMS New Delhi; Prof. (Dr.) Pranjal Phukan, AIIMS Guwahati; and senior radiologists from AIIMS Bhopal, Rishikesh, Raipur, and other premier institutions.

In his address, Shri Sonowal described the conclave as a landmark step in strengthening academic exchange and advancing India’s vision of accessible, innovative healthcare. He praised AIIMS Guwahati and the organising team for convening experts and young doctors from across the nation, noting the institution’s role in positioning the Northeast as an emerging hub of medical excellence.

The Minister also spoke on India’s healthcare transformation since 2014 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting:

  • Expansion of AIIMS from 7 to 23 institutions, including AIIMS Guwahati.

  • Flagship reforms like Ayushman Bharat–PMJAY, offering financial protection to over 55 crore citizens.

  • Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana, providing affordable medicines through more than 11,000 Kendras.

He emphasised the role of modern diagnostics in early detection of diseases like cancer, stroke, and cardiac conditions, while appreciating AIIMS Guwahati’s eco-friendly design as a balance of healthcare and sustainability.

The conclave will feature lectures, workshops, and panel discussions on innovations in imaging, interventional radiology, and AI in healthcare. It is also expected to pave the way for a future Radiological Association of INIs, enhancing training, collaboration, and academic exchange among India’s top medical institutions.
