Addressing India’s leading spine surgeons and medical experts at the SMISS Asia Pacific conference held at The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai, Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, delivered a powerful message that blended personal experience with national vision.
Hailing doctors as “symbols of hope,” Adani emphasized that true healing lies at the intersection of medicine and humanity. Drawing from his own life journey—from polishing diamonds in Mumbai to leading India’s largest infrastructure conglomerate—he likened spinal strength in the human body to resilient leadership in organizations.
Adani spotlighted India’s growing “spinal epidemic,” noting that nearly 50% of Indian adults suffer from low back pain, now the leading cause of disability in the country. He warned that unless this silent crisis is addressed, it could threaten India’s broader developmental ambitions.
Urging a shift towards entrepreneurial thinking in healthcare, Adani challenged the medical community to:
Create AI-powered spinal diagnostics
Deploy mobile surgery units for rural care
Build next-generation spinal hospitals equipped with robotics and regenerative medicine
He reaffirmed the ₹60,000 crore philanthropic pledge announced on his 60th birthday, aimed at transforming healthcare, education, and skill development in India. Adani stressed that the nation doesn’t just need upgrades—it requires a complete redesign of the healthcare ecosystem, anchored in AI, empathy, and integrated care models.
As part of this vision, the Adani Healthcare Temples initiative will begin with AI-first, 1,000-bed campuses in Ahmedabad and Mumbai, in collaboration with Mayo Clinic. These institutions aim to set new global benchmarks in clinical innovation and patient care.
Ending on a rousing note, Gautam Adani urged India’s healthcare leaders to “go for it”—to think boldly, lead fearlessly, and help build the backbone of a stronger, healthier India.
