In a groundbreaking medical achievement for Rajasthan, Eternal Hospital, Jaipur, has successfully performed the state’s first Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Replacement (TTVR), offering new hope to patients previously deemed inoperable. This minimally invasive procedure marks a significant advancement, as traditionally, only aortic and mitral valves were replaced using transcatheter techniques.

The pioneering procedure was led by Dr. Prem Ratan Degawat, Director of Mitral & Tricuspid Valve Therapy and Associate Director of TAVR at Eternal Hospital. The patient, a 57-year-old male from Jayal, Nagaur, had undergone two prior open-heart surgeries—first in 1985 and again in 2017. Due to life-threatening bleeding complications during the second surgery, a third open-heart procedure posed extremely high risk.

In recent months, the patient suffered from severe symptoms, including breathlessness, swollen legs, abdominal fluid buildup, and lung congestion. Given the patient's critical condition and complex surgical history, the heart team opted for TTVR, a catheter-based, non-surgical approach to replacing the damaged tricuspid valve. Remarkably, the procedure took only 30 minutes.

Dr. Prashant Dwivedi, Director of the Structural Heart Disease Program, noted the patient’s rapid recovery and discharge just three days after the procedure. “TTVR significantly reduces the risks associated with traditional surgery and enables faster healing. The patient showed immediate improvement,” he said.

The successful intervention was conducted under the expert supervision of renowned interventional cardiologist Dr. Samin K. Sharma, cardiac surgeon Dr. Ajeet Bana, cardiac anesthetist Dr. Navneet Mehta, along with Dr. J.S. Makkar and Dr. Hemant Chaturvedi.

Mrs. Manju Sharma, Co-Chairperson of Eternal Hospital, highlighted the broader impact of this milestone: “TTVR offers a lifeline to high-risk patients who previously had no treatment options.”

Dr. Pracheesh Prakash, CEO of Eternal Hospital, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to innovation: “Our goal is to make world-class cardiac care accessible to every citizen of Rajasthan.”

This achievement establishes Eternal Hospital as a leader in structural heart therapies, opening new avenues for advanced, minimally invasive treatments in the region.
