Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune, has been recognized with two prestigious accolades – Best Brain Stem Death (BSD) Team in Maharashtra and Best Organ Transplant Coordinator Award – for its exceptional contribution to organ donation and transplantation.

The awards were presented at a special felicitation ceremony organized by ROTTO-SOTTO (Regional cum State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization – Western Region & Maharashtra) on the occasion of Indian Organ Donation Day. The honours were conferred by Hon’ble Mr. Prakashrao Abitkar, Minister of Public Health & Family Welfare, Government of Maharashtra, to Dr. Yashraj Patil, Trustee and Treasurer of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pimpri, Pune. Also present were Dr. H.H. Chavan, Medical Superintendent, and Dr. Vrushali Patil, Director of the Organ Donation and Transplant Department at the institution.

During the event, Ms. Vasanti Musalde and Ms. Alishiba Wakde from the hospital were also felicitated with the Best Organ Transplant Coordinator Award in recognition of their outstanding work in facilitating life-saving transplants.

The ceremony, held at the Dr. Sen and Dr. Kinare Auditorium, Seth G.S. Medical College & KEM Hospital, Parel, Mumbai, was graced by prominent dignitaries including Dr. Akash Shukla, Director, ROTTO-SOTTO; Dr. Sangeeta Rawat, Dean of Seth G.S. Medical College & KEM Hospital; and Deans from various medical colleges across the state.

Speaking at the event, Minister Mr. Prakashrao Abitkar emphasized the importance of public participation in the organ donation movement. “To boost this life-saving mission, every individual must come forward. We need to raise awareness that a healthy and fulfilling life is possible after organ transplantation,” he said. “It is heartening to see hospitals and social organizations driving a positive change through awareness campaigns,” he added, while congratulating the awardees.

Dr. P. D. Patil, Chancellor of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pimpri, Pune, remarked, “This recognition further reinforces our commitment to organ donation and transplantation. We are proud to continue this mission with unwavering dedication. The appreciation by ROTTO-SOTTO and the government inspires us to reach even greater heights.”

Pro-Chancellor Dr. Bhagyashree Patil noted, “Our hospital’s efforts in organ donation are saving countless lives. The courageous decisions made by donor families are pivotal to this mission. With advanced infrastructure, expert medical professionals, and dedicated counsellors, our awareness campaigns are gaining strong momentum. This award reflects our sustained and impactful efforts.”

Expressing his pride in the recognition, Dr. Yashraj Patil stated, “Being named Maharashtra’s Best Brain Stem Death Team is a tremendous honour. This achievement highlights the relentless dedication of our doctors, nurses, and staff. Looking ahead, we aim to strengthen our capabilities in transplant surgeries involving the liver, kidneys, pancreas, eyes, heart, and lungs. We are committed to expanding awareness and saving more lives.”
