Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated a state-of-the-art 3D mammography unit at Dharamshila Narayana Super Specialty Hospital on Thursday, marking a significant step in the fight against breast cancer. Designed specifically for the early detection of breast cancer in women, the advanced unit utilizes fully digital technology to deliver quick, accurate diagnoses using the latest medical innovations.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of early detection in improving treatment outcomes and reducing the emotional and financial toll of cancer on families. “Cancer is a disease that brings not only physical suffering but emotional turmoil to entire families. However, with medical science advancing rapidly, early detection and timely treatment have become far more achievable,” Gupta noted.
She also took the opportunity to highlight the broader improvements in Delhi’s public healthcare system. One of the major developments has been the resumption of permanent recruitment in government hospitals, a process that had been stalled for over a decade. “We’ve now appointed over 1,300 permanent nurses, and each government hospital has a dedicated Medical Superintendent to ensure better management and patient care,” she said.
To make essential medicines more affordable, Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been set up in all government hospitals across Delhi. These outlets offer medications at prices 50–70 per cent lower than market rates, significantly easing the financial burden on patients.
The CM also spoke about the successful implementation of central healthcare schemes like Ayushman Bharat and Vay Vandana Yojana in Delhi. Through these programmes, eligible residents receive free medical treatment up to ₹10 lakh, enhancing access to quality healthcare for economically disadvantaged sections.
Another key initiative discussed was the launch of “Arogya Mandirs”, under the broader Ayushman Bharat Mission led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Delhi Government is in the process of establishing 1,139 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across the city to ensure that every citizen has access to healthcare services close to home.
“Our vision is to build a healthcare system where no patient in Delhi loses their life due to lack of timely medical care,” Gupta said. “We aim to make Delhi a global hub for medical excellence—where people from around the world can come for high-quality, affordable treatment.”
