Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday instructed officials to complete the expansion of Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Mangolpuri by August 1. She announced that the ongoing construction of a 362-bed trauma block would raise the hospital’s total capacity to 662 beds, while also improving ICU facilities, parking, and the mortuary.

Gupta emphasized that every Delhi resident must receive timely and high-quality healthcare. During an on-site inspection, she called for urgent action to address the widespread shortage of hospital beds, medical staff, and essential medicines across all government hospitals.

She noted that the Mangolpuri hospital — the only major public healthcare facility in the area — is under immense strain, attending to around 2,700 outpatients and over 30 childbirths daily. Gupta attributed this pressure to the previous government, which she said had left the new hospital building incomplete.
