CK Birla Hospital – CMRI has participated in India’s first multicentric trial of the Supernova stent retriever, a breakthrough expected to reduce the cost of stroke therapy by over 50%. It was the only hospital from Eastern India to be part of this study.

The device, developed by Gravity Medical Technology, is designed to treat large artery occlusions with precision and safety, improving outcomes for stroke patients. Initially tested in patients aged 18–80, the therapy is now considered suitable for all age groups.

Experts believe this innovation will expand access to timely thrombectomy, saving lives and preventing disability for many of the 17 lakh people affected by stroke in India each year. The trial underscores India’s growing strength in advanced medical research and device validation.
