CARE Hospitals Team Performs Life-Saving Dual Heart Surgery on 69-Year-Old Patient
A team of expert cardiac surgeons at CARE Hospitals, Malakpet, successfully performed a high-risk dual heart surgery—Aortic Valve Replacement (AVR) combined with Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)—on 69-year-old Yellaiah from Nalgonda, who was suffering from multiple severe cardiac and systemic complications. The complex procedure underscores CARE Hospitals’ excellence in advanced cardiac care and multidisciplinary teamwork.
Yellaiah was admitted with a persistent high-grade fever, severe breathlessness, and unstable vitals. Investigations revealed a bicuspid aortic valve with severe stenosis, global hypokinesia of the left ventricle (ejection fraction 20%), and infective endocarditis with vegetations on the aortic leaflet. He was diagnosed with Infective Endocarditis with Low Flow, Low Gradient (LF-LG) Senile Aortic Stenosis and Coronary Artery Disease (CAD).
Despite intensive medical management—including antibiotics, ionotropic support, and medications—his condition deteriorated further, leading to liver congestion, acute kidney injury (AKI), and thrombocytopenia. Given the high risk and worsening condition, the surgical team proceeded with AVR using a bioprosthetic valve along with CABG, a challenging procedure in such critically ill patients.
The surgery was completed successfully with careful perioperative management, including ventilatory and ionotropic support, and blood and platelet transfusions. Postoperatively, the patient showed steady improvement in hepatic and renal function, with fever resolution. He was discharged in stable condition on the tenth postoperative day, marking a remarkable recovery.
