Bhubaneswar is set to see a significant boost in healthcare infrastructure with the expansion of ICU facilities at Capital Hospital from 14 to 40 beds.
The decision was finalised during a Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS) meeting aimed at improving treatment quality and addressing long-standing operational issues.
The meeting included senior health officials, the hospital director, and local representatives, focusing on strengthening the hospital’s healthcare delivery system. Capital Hospital serves thousands of patients daily from Bhubaneswar and surrounding areas, making the ICU expansion a key priority. Steps are being taken to expedite the increase in bed capacity.
The RKS also discussed academic and staffing needs, with plans to appoint additional faculty to support postgraduate medical education and clinical services. Employment concerns were addressed, including the regularisation of nearly 150 long-serving fourth-grade employees.
The RKS emphasised enhancing patient welfare, ensuring timely, high-quality healthcare for visitors to the hospital. The meeting was attended by the hospital’s director and medical superintendent, Bhubaneswar MLA Anant Narayan Jena, Mayor Sulochana Das, RKS management committee members, and senior officials from the Works and WATCO departments.
