Canon Medical Systems India has entered into a research collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre (RGCIRC) to explore the role of advanced CT imaging and artificial intelligence (AI) in cancer diagnostics.

As part of the partnership, RGCIRC will utilize Canon’s Aquilion ONE / INSIGHT Edition, a 640-slice CT scanner, for oncology research. The system integrates deep learning–based AI to improve image sharpness, automate scan planning, and minimize radiation dose, while offering wide-area (16-cm) CT coverage.

Key features include the Precise IQ Engine (PIQE) for high-definition imaging, the Advanced intelligent Clear-IQ Engine (AiCE) with SilverBeam filter for radiation reduction, and the INSTINX platform for AI-enabled workflow support.

Leaders from both organizations emphasized the collaboration’s potential to strengthen cancer research and patient care. Koh Yamada, President & CEO of Canon Medical Systems India, said the agreement aligns with the company’s mission to support healthcare institutions in advancing diagnostics.

Dr. Sudhir Rawal, Medical Director & Director of Surgical Oncology at RGCIRC, highlighted the institute’s continued investment in cutting-edge technologies to improve cancer treatment. Dr. Sunil Kumar Puri, Director of Radiology & Interventional Oncology, noted that RGCIRC is the first in India to deploy this system and expects the collaboration to enhance diagnostic confidence and patient outcomes.

This initiative underlines the growing importance of AI-enabled imaging in oncology, mirroring broader trends in India’s healthcare sector.
