Boehringer Ingelheim India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hyderabad-based EMRI Green Health Services, a GVK enterprise that operates the government-supported 108 National Emergency Ambulance Service. This collaboration aims to enhance pre-hospital stroke care management across India, addressing one of the country's most urgent health challenges.
Stroke is a leading cause of death and long-term disability in India. With nearly two million cases annually, timely medical intervention within the critical “golden window” of 4.5 hours remains a major challenge. The new partnership seeks to improve early diagnosis, emergency response, and standardized care protocols.
As part of the agreement, Boehringer Ingelheim India will leverage its global Angels Initiative to provide specialized training to EMRI Green Health’s trainers and call center teams. The initiative includes a “Train-the-Trainer” program at EMRI’s Hyderabad campus, offering access to educational resources, certifications, and support in enhancing stroke-specific protocols for ambulance services.
“This partnership underscores our commitment to improving access to timely stroke care,” said Dr. Shraddha Bhure, Medical Director, Boehringer Ingelheim India. “By empowering emergency teams with knowledge and tools, we aim to save lives and improve outcomes.”
Operating in 14 states and union territories, EMRI Green Health Services provides a critical healthcare lifeline through its 108 Ambulance Service. “With stroke impacting millions, this collaboration will equip our personnel with essential training and tools to make a nationwide difference,” said K Krishnam Raju, Director, EMRI Green Health Services.
Dr. Jeyaraj Durai Pandian, President of the World Stroke Organization, lauded the initiative, stating, “Training over 9,000 ambulance teams and implementing a pre-notification system is a transformative step toward closing gaps in stroke care.”
The MoU also introduces a framework to monitor the use of stroke assessment tools by Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), promoting consistent, high-quality care during patient transport. With this initiative, Boehringer Ingelheim and EMRI Green Health Services aim to redefine stroke care delivery and reduce its impact across India.
