The Atal Institute of Super Specialities (AIMSS) in Chamiyana is set to make history as Himachal Pradesh’s first government hospital to offer advanced robotic-assisted surgeries, placing it alongside premier institutions such as AIIMS, New Delhi. This milestone marks a major leap forward for the state’s public healthcare system.
A cutting-edge robotic surgical system worth ₹29 crore has already been installed at AIMSS, with preparations for its clinical debut now complete. The introduction of this technology will significantly improve surgical precision, shorten patient recovery times, and help clear the backlog of critical cases awaiting intervention.
A Health Department spokesperson highlighted that the system will give surgeons enhanced control and flexibility, particularly in complex procedures. “This is a landmark development for government healthcare in the state,” the official noted.
Beyond robotic surgery, AIMSS is undergoing a comprehensive modernisation, with ₹42 crore worth of high-end medical equipment being installed across multiple departments, including:
Urology and renal transplant
Cardiac anesthesia
Gastrointestinal and plastic surgery
Cardiothoracic and vascular surgery (CTVS)
Cardiology, pediatric surgery, and neurosurgery
These upgrades aim to deliver world-class care across a broad spectrum of specialised and critical services.
With the launch of robotic-assisted surgeries and substantial investments in advanced medical infrastructure, AIMSS Shimla is poised to become a model super-speciality government hospital for North India.
