AIIMS Guwahati has entered into a significant collaboration with the Ministry of Defence to provide specialised and comprehensive healthcare services to ex-servicemen and their families across the North-East region.

The institute signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Regional Centre of the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme in Guwahati on 6 February 2026 at the AIIMS Guwahati campus.

The agreement enables eligible veterans and their dependents enrolled under ECHS to access a wide range of medical services at AIIMS Guwahati, including specialised consultations, diagnostics and advanced treatment facilities.

By bringing ECHS beneficiaries within the ambit of a premier national healthcare institution, the collaboration is expected to improve the availability and continuity of quality medical care for former defence personnel residing in the North-East.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening healthcare support systems for ex-servicemen and their families, reducing the need for long-distance travel for specialised treatment, and enhancing access to tertiary-level care within the region.

This move aligns with broader efforts to expand medical infrastructure and ensure equitable healthcare access for defence veterans and their dependents.
