Philip, a global leader in health technology, has announced the expansion of its collaboration with Nicolab, a pioneering company in AI-driven stroke care, to enhance stroke diagnosis and treatment in India. This strategic move marks a significant milestone in tackling one of India’s leading health challenges by combining Philips’ expertise in medical imaging with Nicolab’s advanced StrokeViewer AI platform.
With approximately 1.8 million new stroke cases reported annually, stroke remains one of the top causes of disability and death in India. Rapid diagnosis and timely intervention are crucial; however, many patients continue to experience delays in receiving specialized treatment. Through this partnership, Philips and Nicolab aim to improve clinical workflows, accelerate decision-making, and increase access to life-saving stroke care across the country.
StrokeViewer — India’s first cloud-based solution with regulatory clearance for CT Perfusion (CTP) analysis — delivers instant AI-generated imaging insights, centralized patient data, and seamless communication among stroke specialists. When integrated with Philips’ image-guided therapy platform Azurion, this solution enables clinicians to diagnose and plan interventions more efficiently. Azurion provides real-time high-resolution imaging, advanced navigation tools, and integration with AI-powered platforms like StrokeViewer, allowing physicians to review DICOM scans and AI results directly on the system to determine treatment eligibility. The 3D planning view further assists interventional teams in selecting optimal access routes and imaging angles before procedures.
“Stroke is a growing healthcare challenge in India, where every minute makes a difference to patient outcomes. At Philips, we are committed to harnessing the power of technology and partnerships to improve access, efficiency and quality of care. By joining hands with Nicolab, we are advancing stroke care in India with a connected, AI-driven solution that empowers clinicians to act faster, deliver more effective outcomes, and extend timely treatment to patients even in underserved communities and Tier 2 and 3 cities — ultimately providing better care for more people,” said Gaurav Vyas, Business Leader, Image Guided Therapy, Philips Indian Subcontinent.
“At Nicolab, our purpose has always been to ensure every stroke patient, regardless of where they live, has the best possible chance of recovery. India presents both an enormous challenge and a profound opportunity. The scale of the stroke burden is immense, yet so is the determination of its clinical community to advance care. Partnering with Philips allows us to support this ambition through proven, AI-powered workflows that connect hospitals, empower clinicians and shorten the time between diagnosis and treatment. Our collaboration is about building capacity, strengthening networks and ensuring that innovation reaches every patient who can benefit from it,” added Michael Macilquham, CEO, Nicolab.
Nicolab’s StrokeViewer leverages advanced AI algorithms to analyze multiple imaging biomarkers, enabling faster and more confident diagnosis. Stroke teams can securely share diagnostic-grade images and patient details through a DICOM viewer—accessible on both mobile and desktop—ensuring every second counts in improving recovery outcomes.
Philips continues to collaborate globally with hospitals, research centers, and technology innovators such as Nicolab, along with its strategic partnership with the World Stroke Organization (WSO), to advance stroke diagnosis and treatment worldwide.
