OpenAI has announced the launch of ChatGPT Health, a dedicated health-focused experience designed to securely combine personal health information with AI-driven insights to help users better understand and manage their health and wellness.

Health-related queries already represent one of the most common use cases for ChatGPT, with more than 230 million people worldwide seeking health and wellness information on the platform each week. ChatGPT Health builds on this demand by offering a specialised environment where users can access contextual, personalised support grounded in their own health data, while maintaining enhanced privacy and security safeguards.

The new experience allows users to securely connect medical records and wellness applications, enabling ChatGPT to provide more relevant insights into areas such as understanding test results, preparing for medical appointments, identifying health trends over time, managing diet and fitness routines, and navigating insurance-related decisions. Supported integrations initially include platforms such as Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal, with medical record connectivity available in the United States through a partnership with health data network b.well.

ChatGPT Health operates as a separate, isolated space within ChatGPT, with additional layers of encryption and data compartmentalisation designed specifically for sensitive health information. Health conversations and data are stored separately from other chats, are not used to train AI models, and can be reviewed or deleted by users at any time. Enhanced access controls, including multi-factor authentication, further strengthen data protection.

The platform is designed to support—not replace—clinical care. It does not provide diagnoses or treatment recommendations, but instead focuses on helping users make sense of health information, recognise patterns, and engage more confidently in discussions with healthcare professionals.

Development of ChatGPT Health involved close collaboration with more than 260 physicians across 60 countries and multiple medical specialties. Their input helped shape response quality, safety standards, and appropriate guidance thresholds. The system is evaluated using HealthBench, a physician-informed assessment framework focused on clinical relevance, clarity, safety, and appropriate escalation of care.

Access to ChatGPT Health is being rolled out gradually, beginning with a limited group of users on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK. OpenAI plans to expand availability globally across web and iOS platforms in the coming weeks.
