The Gujarat government is developing dedicated software to streamline organ transplant registrations in a bid to improve transparency and trust in the state’s transplant system and give beneficiaries better access to information.
The digital platform is being designed for patients awaiting kidney, liver, skin, heart valve, tissue and bone transplants, addressing concerns of many who have spent years on waiting lists with little clarity about their status.
Once operational, the system will allow registered patients to access real-time updates on their position on the transplant waiting list, a long-standing demand of recipients and their families. The initiative follows a government meeting on November 22, chaired by Principal Secretary Raj Kumar, where officials discussed measures to make Gujarat’s organ donation and transplant programme more transparent, efficient and reliable.
At the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC) in Ahmedabad, the state’s largest transplant centre, patients noted that the software will enable them to check their waiting list numbers from home, reducing anxiety and the need for repeated hospital visits.
The new registration platform is expected to strengthen the state’s organ transplant framework by enhancing transparency across procedures involving all major organ and tissue transplants and ensuring patients receive timely and accurate information on their status.
