Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has introduced an innovative health chatbot to improve citizen access to medical services and information via a dedicated WhatsApp number.
The chatbot enables residents to register for consultations and appointments at municipal health centres across the city, access information on a wide range of diseases, ongoing health campaigns, immunisation drives, and locate nearby health facilities.
In addition, it provides a digital platform for citizens to apply for or obtain details of health-related certificates and licences, including birth, death, marriage, and disability documentation, as well as licences connected to maternity homes and other health facilities.
This initiative is part of BMC’s broader strategy to digitise public health services, streamline administrative processes, and reduce time and effort for users by providing convenient, 24/7 access to essential healthcare information and services. The program was launched under the supervision of the Minister for Information Technology and Cultural Affairs, who also serves as the guardian minister for the Mumbai suburban district.
BMC plans to further enhance its digital health infrastructure with the introduction of a dedicated health services website and an interactive dashboard displaying real-time outpatient department statistics and hospital bed availability across city hospitals.
