Longhorn Vaccines and Diagnostics, a One Health-focused company developing vaccines and diagnostic tools for zoonotic and global public health challenges, has announced a strategic co-marketing partnership with Promega Corporation. The collaboration aims to deliver integrated molecular testing solutions that enhance safety, efficiency, and flexibility across various diagnostic settings.
At the heart of this partnership is the synergy between Longhorn’s validated PrimeStore® Molecular Transport Medium (MTM) and Promega’s Maxwell® automated nucleic acid extraction platform. Together, they create a streamlined, end-to-end workflow that enables biosafe virus sample collection, transport, and high-quality nucleic acid extraction for improved molecular analysis.
PrimeStore® MTM is a proven inactivating transport medium designed for both RNA and DNA, allowing safe and efficient transportation of infectious disease samples. When paired with Promega’s Maxwell® instruments and reagent kits—engineered for automated extraction of viral nucleic acids from various specimen types—the solution supports fast and reliable diagnostics.
“The accuracy of molecular diagnostics, PCR, and sequencing begins with high-quality nucleic acid,” said Jeff Fischer, President of Longhorn Vaccines and Diagnostics. “Promega’s validation of PrimeStore® MTM on their Maxwell® platform proves the effectiveness of this combined approach. The ability to safely handle samples outside of containment accelerates testing and enables quicker treatment decisions. We’re now including the Maxwell® platform and kits in our official Instructions for Use.”
Julie Yang, Director of Applied Markets at Promega, added, “This collaboration simplifies the entire diagnostic workflow—from sample collection to nucleic acid purification—without compromising safety or performance.”
The two companies will jointly present their integrated technologies at ADLM 2025 (Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine) in Chicago from July 29–31, 2025. Attendees can explore PrimeStore® MTM at booth #3757 and learn more about the Maxwell® instruments and purification kits at booth #3655.
Earlier this year, the collaborative workflow was highlighted through joint poster presentations at leading scientific conferences. At the May 2025 Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) conference in Portland, Oregon, the teams presented “Validation of a Novel Sample Collection-to-Detection Workflow Using PrimeStore® MTM, Pathogen Total Nucleic Acid Kit, and PrimeMix® MTB.” Another poster titled “Novel Biosafe and Scalable Detection of Influenza A (H5N1, H3N2, H1N1) for Veterinary and One Health Applications” was showcased at the June 2025 International Symposium of the World Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians in Calgary, Alberta.
This partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing diagnostic precision and biosafety in both human and veterinary health sectors through innovative, integrated solutions.
