The Karnataka Medical Council (KMC) proudly represented India at the prestigious International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities (IAMRA) Conference 2025, held recently in Dublin, Ireland. This five-day global event drew over 36 regulatory bodies and medical councils worldwide, with participation from the World Health Organization (WHO). The conference focused on shaping the future of medical regulation amid rapid technological, ethical, and healthcare advancements.

Indian delegates from KMC, the National Medical Commission (NMC), and Gujarat Medical Council (GMC) attended the event. The KMC team — Dr. Chytra V Anand, Dr. Pavan Patil, Dr. Ravindra R, Dr. Santosh Patil, and Dr. Sharan Karbhari — actively engaged in high-level discussions with their international counterparts. Key topics included enhancing continuing professional development, promoting telemedicine, integrating artificial intelligence in healthcare, ensuring ethical social media use, and prioritizing physician wellbeing as a cornerstone of patient safety.

Speaking about the conference, Dr. Chytra V Anand said, “IAMRA 2025 gave us a global stage to both learn and share. At KMC, we highlighted some of our best practices including our statutory position, transparent processes for addressing malpractice, our collaborative work with allied and modern medicine, and the realities of rural healthcare in India. These conversations are vital in ensuring that regulatory frameworks evolve in step with the needs of both patients and doctors.”

Alongside KMC, representatives from the Gujarat Medical Council — Dr. Nitin Vora and Dr. Manish Patel — and the Chair of the NMC, Dr. Abhijit Desai, represented India, showcasing the nation’s unified approach to medical regulation on the global stage.

Through its participation, KMC reaffirmed India’s commitment to learning from international best practices and implementing key takeaways locally. The council plans to enhance transparency in complaint resolution, upgrade professional development programs, and issue updated guidance on digital health and AI-driven medical practices. These initiatives aim to strengthen accountability, innovation, and trust in India’s healthcare system.

KMC’s involvement in IAMRA 2025 not only highlighted India’s influential role in global medical regulatory discourse but also paved the way for progressive reforms to ensure ethical, patient-centered, and future-ready medical governance across the nation.
