In a move to advance preventive healthcare and promote indigenously developed medical technologies, the Technology Development Board (TDB) of the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, has approved grant support for a collaborative digital health R&D project with Drstore Healthcare Service India Pvt. Ltd., Maharashtra.

The project, titled “Multivital Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) Device with Cardiovascular Biomarkers for Early Detection of Heart Conditions alongside Diabetes Monitoring,” is part of the Indo-Canada Collaborative Industrial Research & Development Programme, a bilateral initiative with the National Research Council Canada (NRC) and Global Affairs Canada.

The Indo-Canada programme supports industry-driven, market-oriented R&D projects that aim to produce commercializable technologies with societal relevance.

Under this framework, the Indian project will collaborate with Canadian partner Nanospeed Diagnostics Inc. to integrate advanced cardio-metabolic biomarkers—including B-type Natriuretic Peptide (BNP), Troponin-I, and high-sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hs-CRP)—into continuous glucose monitoring systems. By leveraging interstitial fluid analysis, the technology will enable simultaneous, continuous monitoring of glucose levels and early cardiovascular risk indicators, addressing co-morbidities commonly associated with diabetes.

The project aims to support early detection, remote monitoring, and preventive management of cardiovascular conditions, particularly for high-risk populations, while reducing dependence on episodic diagnostics and hospital-centric care. It aligns with national priorities for affordable healthcare access, digital health adoption, and indigenous medical device development.

Drstore Healthcare Service India Pvt. Ltd., established in 2015, specializes in preventive and remote healthcare monitoring solutions. With TDB support, the project will validate technology feasibility and create pathways for commercial deployment of an integrated multi-vital health monitoring platform tailored to Indian healthcare requirements.

Key anticipated outcomes include:

  • Real-time, remote monitoring of glucose and cardiovascular biomarkers for home-based and post-operative care.

  • Early detection and preventive management of cardiac conditions in diabetic and high-risk patients.

  • Development of an integrated ecosystem of smart health devices to manage co-morbidities such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory conditions.

The initiative exemplifies TDB’s mandate to promote industry-led innovation, international technology collaboration, and commercialisation of indigenous healthcare solutions, contributing to improved health outcomes and strengthening India’s medical technology ecosystem.
