India and Seychelles have expanded their bilateral partnership in the health sector as part of a broader strategic engagement under the newly adopted Joint Vision for Sustainability, Economic Growth and Security through Enhanced Linkages (SESEL).

During the state visit of Seychelles President Patrick Herminie to India, both countries signed a memorandum of understanding on pharmacopoeial cooperation, signalling closer collaboration on medicine standards and access to quality pharmaceuticals. This cooperation is intended to facilitate streamlined procurement of affordable, quality-assured medicines between the two nations.

In line with the health cooperation framework, India announced a $175 million special economic package that includes components aimed at supporting public health priorities. As part of this package, India agreed to support continued access to affordable and quality medicines, enhance public health infrastructure and bolster health services in Seychelles. This assistance also encompasses the donation of 10 fully equipped ambulances to strengthen emergency medical response capacity on the islands.

India and Seychelles also agreed to leverage institutional linkages to advance cooperation in health workforce development, including training programmes and exchange visits for medical specialists, nurses, paramedics and technicians. Under this extended health partnership, both countries will explore opportunities to improve access to specialised care and support infrastructure development in Seychelles.

These developments form part of a wider health cooperation agenda embedded within the SESEL framework, reflecting a shared commitment to improving health outcomes, expanding pharmaceutical access and strengthening health system capacity in Seychelles through technical collaboration with India.
