The Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Greater Noida has strengthened its health infrastructure with the installation of a 128-slice CT scan machine and advanced digital X-ray systems, officials said on Monday.

Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister and health minister Brajesh Pathak inaugurated the new facilities, which are expected to reduce patient waiting times and enhance the institute’s diagnostic capabilities.

“Patients in Greater Noida should not have to depend on Delhi for advanced investigations. With these machines and upcoming facilities, GIMS is becoming self-sufficient in critical diagnostics,” said the deputy CM, while emphasizing that officials should ensure smooth operation and hold doctors accountable for timely services.

Hospital authorities noted that the additional CT scanner can serve over 100 patients daily, significantly reducing delays that previously ranged from 20 minutes to an hour. The new digital X-ray machines will support specialized procedures like barium swallow, intravenous urography, and hysterosalpingography, which earlier required patients to visit larger centers.

In parallel, a 100-bed Critical Care Block is being developed under the Pradhan Mantri–Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), a central government initiative launched in 2021 to expand critical care, disease surveillance, and diagnostic facilities at the district level.

Dr. (Brig.) Rakesh Gupta, director of GIMS Greater Noida, said the new diagnostic services and upcoming expansion will ease the hospital’s workload and support medical education programs. “The new diagnostic services and the forthcoming expansion will provide much-needed relief to lakhs of people in Greater Noida and nearby districts,” he said.

Earlier, the deputy CM visited Shri Krishna Maa Jalpa Bhawani Gaushala in Noida’s Sector 14 to inspect fodder, drinking water, and veterinary care arrangements, and also reviewed classroom, computer, and sanitation facilities at an Upper Primary School in Garhi Shahdara.

“The new diagnostic facilities at GIMS will directly benefit patients who otherwise had to travel outside the district. Inspections of schools and the gaushala highlight key areas where services for the public are being strengthened in the district,” said district magistrate Medha Roopam.
