The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC), an entity under the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with global pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim to strengthen efforts in managing chronic diseases across the Emirate.

The strategic collaboration aims to enhance the quality of life for patients suffering from cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic (CRM) diseases, as well as pulmonary fibrosis and stroke. With the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the UAE, the partnership highlights the need for comprehensive, data-driven strategies focused on prevention, early detection, and education.

Cardiovascular and metabolic conditions remain leading causes of hospitalisation and long-term health complications in the region. As part of the MoU, both parties will roll out targeted public awareness campaigns to educate residents about the symptoms, risks, and management of CRM diseases and pulmonary fibrosis. Additionally, the collaboration will support efforts to collect health data, promote early screening, encourage healthier lifestyle habits, and boost participation in education initiatives.

H.E. Dr. Rashed Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADPHC, emphasized the urgency of action, stating: “The rise of non-communicable diseases, linked to poor lifestyle habits and behavioural risk factors, requires a collaborative and proactive response. These diseases impact individuals, families, and the entire healthcare system. Our partnership with Boehringer Ingelheim reinforces Abu Dhabi’s commitment to public health by promoting wellness, early intervention, and health literacy.”

Ousama Alhaj, General Manager and Head of Human Pharma for the Near East and UAE at Boehringer Ingelheim, noted: “Real progress in healthcare can only be achieved through partnership. Aligned with the UAE’s Year of Community, we are proud to work alongside ADPHC to raise awareness, encourage early diagnosis, and deliver patient-centric solutions that improve health outcomes.”

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to reduce the impact of chronic illnesses in the Middle East. Through innovation, education, and community engagement, ADPHC and Boehringer Ingelheim aim to create a healthier and more resilient population in Abu Dhabi and the wider region.
