Emergency medicine in India is at a pivotal point, and I feel fortunate to be a part of this transformation. Over the years, I have seen this speciality evolve from a lesser-known field into one of the fastest-growing and most promising career paths for young doctors. Today, emergency medicine is gaining the recognition it deserves, and I truly believe the best is yet to come.

India’s Emergency Care: A Journey of Progress and Potential

While India’s emergency care systems are still developing, I see tremendous progress—especially in metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. These cities now have strong emergency departments and trained emergency physicians, which was not the case a decade ago.

The real opportunity ahead lies in extending this progress to semi-urban and rural regions, where emergency care can make the most meaningful impact. With 80% of our population living outside the metros, strengthening rural emergency services is not just important—it is essential. And I am encouraged to see that across the medical community, there is growing awareness, interest, and commitment to this cause.

Our Work at Ujala Cygnus: Building Capacity Where It Matters Most

At Ujala Cygnus, we have always believed in bringing quality healthcare to places where it is needed the most. With our presence across 28 hospitals, many of them located in remote areas, we have a powerful opportunity to shape emergency care at the grassroots.

In Jammu, for instance, there was no advanced private emergency department until we built one at Ujala Cygnus JK Medicity. Today, it stands as a 24×7, fully equipped unit with trained emergency physicians—something I’m incredibly proud of.

Across our network—in Jammu, Kashmir, Haryana, Uttarakhand—we are developing standardized protocols, clinical pathways, and strong emergency teams. This structured approach ensures that every patient receives timely, evidence-based care. And importantly, it allows other specialists to rest assured knowing that a dedicated emergency physician is always standing at the frontline.

Strengthening Preparedness: Training, Skills, and Continuous Learning

Emergency medicine is a dynamic field, and preparedness is everything. In my experience, awareness, hands-on training, and repeated practice are what truly make the difference during critical moments.

This is why we emphasize:

  • Regular mock drills

  • Refresher courses

  • Performance assessments

  • Skill-building workshops

Whether in large cities or smaller towns, ongoing training ensures that our teams remain confident, competent, and ready to handle any situation.

Leveraging Technology to Save Lives

Technology is one of our greatest allies in emergency care. Even something as simple as a defibrillator or AED can change the outcome for a patient in seconds. With 5G-enabled ambulances, our paramedics connect directly with emergency physicians during patient transport.

This means that even before a patient reaches the hospital, we can begin stabilizing them—a significant leap forward for communities located far from advanced care facilities.

Accessible, Affordable Care: The Heart of Our Mission

What inspires me most at Ujala Cygnus is our unwavering commitment to affordability. Our foundation is built on delivering the same quality of care offered in major metro hospitals—but at a cost that is accessible for economically weaker communities.

Every day, we see more patients choosing not to travel to big cities because they trust the care available closer to home. This trust motivates us to further strengthen our services and continue expanding our reach.

Looking Ahead

I am optimistic about the future of emergency care in India. We are not just building departments—we are building a movement. A movement powered by skilled professionals, innovative technologies, and a vision to save lives in every corner of the country.

At Ujala Cygnus, we remain committed to developing strong emergency systems, empowering our teams, and ensuring that quality care is accessible and affordable for all.

The journey is long, but together—with continuous learning, collaboration, and dedication—I am confident that we will elevate emergency care in India to global standards.
