Mrs. Shobha Tuli, Secretary of Thalassemics India, has dedicated over three decades to improving the lives of those affected by thalassemia and related hemoglobinopathies. A founding member of Thalassemics India since its inception in 1987, she has served as its Secretary since 1992. In memory of her daughter, she established the ‘Preeti Tuli Thalassaemia Unit’ at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, in 1993, a landmark initiative in thalassemia care.
Internationally recognized, Mrs. Tuli has been a board member of the Thalassaemia International Federation (TIF) since 1994 and currently serves as its Vice President. She has also presided over the Federation of Indian Thalassemics since 2000.
Her advocacy has shaped national health policies, including guidelines on preventing and controlling hemoglobinopathies under India’s National Health Mission. She played a pivotal role in drafting the National Policy on Hemoglobinopathies and served on the Ministry of Health's Disability Revision Guidelines Committee.
Mrs. Tuli’s work has earned numerous accolades, including the George Englezos Award by TIF and a Lifetime Service Award from the Indian Academy of Pediatrics. Her unwavering commitment continues to transform thalassemia care in India, inspiring countless lives.
