Telangana Issues Ban On Almont-Kid Syrup After CDSCO Warning

By Team VOH

The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) has issued an urgent advisory directing the immediate discontinuation of Almont-Kid Syrup, a medicine commonly prescribed for allergies, hay fever, and asthma in children, after it was reportedly found adulterated with ethylene glycol, a highly toxic substance.

The alert follows a notification from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), East Zone, Kolkata, based on laboratory tests confirming that the syrup, containing levocetirizine dihydrochloride and montelukast sodium, was contaminated.

The affected product is Almont-Kid Syrup, Batch No. AL-24002, manufactured by Tridus Remedies, Bihar.

The DCA has instructed the public to stop using the syrup immediately and report any possession to the nearest Drugs Control Authority. All Drugs Inspectors and Assistant Directors in the state have been ordered to notify retailers, wholesalers, distributors, and hospitals, and to freeze stocks of the affected batch to prevent sale or dispensing.

Authorities are also monitoring the situation and enforcing measures to mitigate any public health risks associated with ethylene glycol toxicity. The public can report possession of the syrup directly to the DCA through its toll-free number.
