Under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) scheme, the Government of India has opened 17,610 Jan Aushadhi Kendras (JAKs) across the country as of 30 November 2025, with 277 centres located in Andhra Pradesh, according to information provided in the Lok Sabha. The scheme aims to make quality generic medicines available at affordable prices through dedicated outlets nationwide.
Over the last five financial years, the government sanctioned progressively higher funds for the programme, with allocations rising from ₹65 crore in 2020‑21 to ₹284.50 crore in 2024‑25; utilisation of the latest allocation stood at ₹182.73 crore. There is no state‑wise allocation of funds under the scheme. Across this period, total sales under PMBJP amounted to ₹6,290.23 crore (MRP value), with state‑wise and year‑wise sales detailed in the official annexure.
Under the scheme’s incentive framework, JAK owners receive incentives at the rate of 10% of monthly purchases, subject to a ceiling of ₹10,000 per month, and an additional incentive of up to ₹10,000 per month for maintaining stock of 200 high‑demand products.
A one‑time special incentive of ₹2 lakh is offered to JAKs established in the North‑Eastern states, Himalayan areas, island territories, and aspirational districts, as well as to those opened by eligible entrepreneurs including ex‑servicemen, persons with disabilities, and members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
To further expand coverage, the government has set a target to open 25,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras by March 2027. Applications are being invited online from individual entrepreneurs, NGOs, societies, trusts, firms, and private companies across all districts through the PMBJP portal.
The official annexure shows that Uttar Pradesh has the highest number with 3,731 outlets, followed by Kerala (1,685), Karnataka (1,543), and Tamil Nadu (1,483). Other states with significant coverage include Bihar (993), Gujarat (827), West Bengal (812), Odisha (788), and Maharashtra (723). Smaller numbers are reported in Union Territories and smaller states, such as Andaman & Nicobar Islands (9) and Lakshadweep (1). Telangana has 208 centres and Haryana 463. In Andhra Pradesh, 277 JAKs are operational, with district-wise distribution including Guntur (24), Kurnool (20), NTR (17), and East Godavari (14).
