The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is set to enhance healthcare access with a new government-backed telemedicine initiative, building on recent advancements across its medical institutions.
The project aims to connect patients at Primary Health Centres (PHCs) with specialists at district hospitals, Government Medical Colleges, and other major facilities via video or telephone consultations.
This move is expected to significantly reduce the need for long-distance travel, providing timely medical advice, particularly during winters and in emergency situations.
Government data indicate that the telemedicine network will cover all ten districts of the Kashmir Division, linking PHCs, Community Health Centres (CHCs), and New Type PHCs (NTPHCs) to central district hubs. An initial allocation of 40 telemedicine units will be deployed across Anantnag, Bandipora, Baramulla, Budgam, Ganderbal, Kulgam, Kupwara, Pulwama, Shopian, and Srinagar.
The initiative will directly connect patients in remote and underserved areas with specialist doctors, aiming to fundamentally improve healthcare delivery and accessibility across the region.
