Infosys Foundation Pledges Over ₹48 Crore to Boost Maternal and Child Healthcare in Rural Karnataka

Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic arm of IT giant Infosys, has committed over ₹48 crore to improve maternal and child healthcare infrastructure in rural Karnataka. The initiative is part of a strategic partnership with the UN-recognised Prashanthi Balamandira Trust.

The funding will support the Sri Sathya Sai Sarla Memorial Hospital, a multi-speciality teaching hospital affiliated with the Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SMSIMSR). The goal is to enhance access to free, high-quality healthcare services for underserved women, infants, and children in rural communities.

“This collaboration will enable the expansion of critical healthcare services in the region,” Infosys Foundation stated in a regulatory filing. “Our grant will be used to upgrade infrastructure and equip key departments with advanced medical technology.”

The funding will specifically support:

  • Obstetrics and gynecology departments with advanced medical equipment

  • Enhanced facilities for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and general Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

  • Upgrades to diagnostic radiology and operation theatres (OTs)

  • Coverage of essential operational costs

The initiative is projected to benefit more than 8,000 patients annually by improving access to critical maternal and pediatric care. As a teaching hospital, Sri Sathya Sai Sarla Memorial Hospital will also use the upgraded facilities to train and upskill undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.

SMSIMSR founder Madhusudan Sai emphasized the broader impact of the initiative, noting that the new facilities will play a pivotal role in advancing both patient care and medical education in the region.
