India–Taiwan Unite to Advance Global Oral Health

By Team VOH

The 2nd Edition of the International Conference on Dentistry and Awards 2025 opened with an insightful inaugural and keynote panel on “Oral Health as a Global Health Imperative.” The session brought together distinguished leaders from India and Taiwan to spotlight the growing significance of oral health within the broader framework of global healthcare.

In his inaugural address Dr. Naveen Nishchal, Founder - Voice of Healthcare and Co Founder (Cygnus Hospitals and Meddo - Doxper) said, “This event marks a meaningful collaboration between India and Taiwan — two nations united by healthcare innovation and compassion. As a physician, I believe oral health reflects overall health. Yet, like other areas of public health, dentistry in India still faces challenges of accessibility, affordability, and quality. Most rural areas lack proper dental care, many patients can’t afford even basic treatment due to limited insurance coverage, and unqualified practices continue to exist. To bridge these gaps, technology must lead the way. AI, 3D imaging, and digital innovation should be made accessible to every dentist, not just a few. India and Taiwan have much to learn from each other — in clinical innovation, education, and healthcare management. This conference is an opportunity to exchange ideas, share best practices, and build partnerships that advance oral healthcare for all.”

Mr. Robert Hsieh Bor-Huei, Deputy Representative, Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India said, “As a trade representative, I usually focus on numbers, but today is about something more meaningful — quality of life. A smile may be simple, yet it reflects confidence, health, and happiness. Dentistry today goes beyond aesthetics; it stands at the cutting edge of medical technology.

India and Taiwan share a strong bond rooted in education, science, and public well-being. Our collaboration in healthcare and biotechnology is growing rapidly — with Taiwan bringing advanced dental technologies and India offering scale, expertise, and innovation. Together, we can co-create global healthcare solutions.

Like a perfect set of teeth, our partnership is distinct yet aligned — stronger when united. Let’s use this platform to learn, connect, and build lasting cooperation.”

Lt Gen (Dr.) Vimal Arora, BDS, MDS (Lko), FDS RCPS (Glasgow), FRSM (London), FPFA, FADI, FICD, PVSM, AVSM, VSM & Bar (By the President of India), Order of the Special, Royal Emblem  (Oman), Hony Dental Surgeon to President of India, Former Director, General Dental Services, Army Dental Corps, India,Colonel Commandant Army Dental Corps, Former Member of Dental Council of India, Presently: CHIEF CLINICAL OFFICER,, CLOVE DENTAL, Director Star Dental Corporation, DIrector Innovative Oral Care,Director Thera-oral Care stated, “I come with a rather unique professional journey. I spent 40 years serving in the government, working across the Army, Air Force, and Navy — in both field and peace settings. Over the years, I’ve learned to understand scale, manage large teams, and handle complex operations from the rank of Lieutenant to Lieutenant General.

Just when I thought I had seen it all, I transitioned to the healthcare sector by joining Clove Dental — growing from 23 clinics to over 650 clinics and leading a team that has expanded from 23 dentists to 1,500 today.”

Major General (Retd.) Dr. P. N. Awasthi, Former Secretary, Dental Council of India (DCI) stated, “Globally, countries like the US and UK emphasize evidence-based practice, digital workflows, and preventive oral health. The FDI has now defined oral health as a fundamental human right, essential for confidence, communication, and overall well-being — regardless of age.

India, with 325 dental colleges and nearly 3.8 lakh registered dentists, has more manpower than required by WHO standards. Yet, challenges remain — uneven quality, limited research, and lack of global exposure. We must focus on faculty development, curriculum reform, and digital readiness.

Innovations like AI, 3D printing, teledentistry, and mobile health outreach are transforming the field. In rural India, mobile dental units and telemedicine can bridge access gaps. Collaboration among academia, industry, and government is vital to drive research and innovation.

Our focus should be on competency-based education, global standards, preventive care, and integrating oral health into national policy. Research must address real-world challenges, and public–private partnerships should be strengthened to expand reach and quality.

Faculty development, evidence-based research, and modernized teaching must become priorities. Regulatory bodies should not only monitor but also guide innovation and maintain global competitiveness.

India has the numbers — now we need quality. By aligning education, innovation, and service delivery, and ensuring awareness, accessibility, and affordability, India can emerge as a global leader in oral healthcare.

We can learn from the Indian Armed Forces Dental Services — where care is need-based, efficient, and inclusive. That should be our model for a healthier, more equitable future in oral healthcare.”

Mr. Vincent Lin, Director, Taipei World Trade Center, Liaison Office in New Delhi (TAITRA) said, “It’s an honour to join the 2nd International Conference on Dentistry and Awards, organized by India’s Voice of Healthcare and Taiwan’s National Cheng Kung University Hospital.

Taiwan is not only the world’s top semiconductor producer but also a global leader in healthcare — ranked number one in the Numbeo Healthcare Index for five consecutive years, with outstanding transplant success rates and universal health coverage.

Our dental industry is driven by advanced technology, skilled professionals, and innovation in cosmetic and restorative care. Taiwan produces high-quality dental equipment, lasers, and navigation systems, while India offers scale, expertise, and affordability — together creating vast potential for collaboration.

Both nations share strong academic and medical foundations, and by combining our strengths, we can co-create global healthcare solutions. I invite you all to visit Taiwan and explore opportunities at our upcoming healthcare and dental events.”

The inaugural session set an inspiring tone for the 2nd Edition of the International Conference on Dentistry and Awards 2025, reinforcing that oral health is central to holistic well-being. As experts from India and Taiwan exchanged ideas and innovations, the dialogue marked a significant step toward creating an inclusive, technology-driven, and globally aligned future for dentistry. The event served as a testament to the power of collaboration, compassion, and shared commitment to advancing oral healthcare for all.
