As of November 30, 2025, 1,81,873 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are operational across India, expanding comprehensive primary healthcare services in rural and urban areas.
These centres, formerly known as Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres, were part of a government plan to transform sub-health centres and primary health centres to offer a broad range of services including reproductive and child health, communicable and non-communicable disease screening and management, and gradually added care such as mental health, ophthalmology, oral health, geriatric and palliative care.
Under the PM-ABHIM (Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission), 621 Critical Care Blocks have been approved and sanctioned in district hospitals to enhance intensive care capacity with well-equipped ICUs, oxygen-supported beds and infection control systems, improving access to emergency and infectious disease care closer to communities.
Also under PM-ABHIM, 744 Integrated Public Health Laboratories have been sanctioned nationwide to serve as district-level hubs for diagnostics, disease confirmation and public health surveillance. These laboratories feed real-time data into the Integrated Health Information Platform, strengthening outbreak detection, reporting and coordinated response.
The updates were provided by the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
