India and Norway have reaffirmed their commitment to a deeper healthcare partnership as Norwegian Health Minister Jan Christian Vestre met Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda and Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi. The discussions centred on expanding cooperation across health systems, research, regulation, and digital innovation.
During the meeting, Minister Nadda proposed signing new Memorandums of Understanding to advance collaboration in health, medicine, and drug regulation. He highlighted India’s priorities in digital health, human resource development, maternal and child nutrition, and joint research on key diseases. Both sides underscored the need to strengthen ties that support India’s National Health Policy and broader public health goals.
Minister Vestre’s visit also included discussions with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, who emphasized opportunities for enhanced cooperation in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and technology-driven innovation to deliver accessible and affordable care.
The partnership builds on long-standing cooperation under the Norway India Partnership Initiative (NIPI), currently in its fourth phase. In October, Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava and Norway’s Ambassador May-Elin Stener reviewed progress and approved the 2025–26 work plan for NIPI, which continues to support health programs across Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir.
