Experts Sound Alarm on Rising Obesity, Early Heart Attacks Among Youth; Advocate ‘Blue Zone’ Lifestyle

By Team VOH

India is witnessing a worrying health trend as sedentary habits and poor lifestyle choices increasingly affect its younger population. Doctors have raised concerns over a sharp rise in hypertension cases among teenagers and heart attacks striking individuals as young as 25.

Medical experts revealed that nearly 50 per cent of heart attacks now occur in people under 50, while about 60 per cent of schoolchildren in Delhi are obese—a statistic they describe as deeply alarming.

In response, health professionals are urging Indians to adopt the ‘Blue Zone’ lifestyle, inspired by regions across the world—Okinawa (Japan), Sardinia (Italy), Nicoya (Costa Rica), Icaria (Greece), and Loma Linda (California)—where people live longer, healthier lives. These communities thrive through natural physical activity, plant-based diets, social connections, and a strong sense of purpose.

Experts believe that embracing these habits could help curb India’s growing urban health crisis and safeguard the well-being of future generations.
